Bugetti (Pd): Pd-M5S alliance is possible, look at the Prato model

The newly elected mayor speaks with Dire about the priorities of her council and gives advice to the national centre-left

PRATO – As soon as she was elected she received congratulations from the national secretary Elly Schlein and from Stefano Bonaccini, from Nicola Zingaretti and from Andrea Orlando“but I still have over 1,000 messages on WhatsApp that I still have to read”, specifies Ilaria Bugetti. The neoeletta faces the first hours as mayor of Prato expressing that transversal character, inside and outside the Democratic Party, which contributed to bringing her to victory. She who supported Bonaccini at the congress, but who ended up meeting the enthusiasm when she was designated as the candidate of a local leadership aligned with the motion of the current leader of the Nazarene. A conciliatory approach which, now, promises to become his signature style at the helm of the administration because, he explains speaking with Dire, “when you are the mayor of the whole city, you need to interface with everyone, it is absolutely necessary in my view to be in dialogue with everyone.Unity, the bridge between everyone, is what I tried to bring to the electoral campaign both within the party and above all outside with the coalition and with the whole city. The idea is to try to keep all the pieces together.” A job that allowed a coalition that had 45% in the European elections to grow to 52% in the municipal elections. An added value that perhaps will also translate into the designation of civic figures, external to the parties, in the next council? “This is still a matter of reflection – he admits – I’m starting from the staff that will surround me. I tend to be very respectful, certainly the figures that I have already identified for the Council are the deputy mayor Simone Faggi and the provincial secretary Marco Biagioni among the councillors, on the rest I will have to make some assessments and also look at the numbers of the civic lists and the coalition”.

‘CAMPO LARGO IS AN EXAMPLE ALSO AT NATIONAL LEVEL’

What is clear is that it will take about twenty days at most to define the government team, he assures. Ecumenical qualities aside, the political significance that revolves around Bugetti’s electoral coronation is given by the successful experimentation of the wide-field formula between the Pd and M5S. A model which, according to Biagioni himself, would make Prato a national laboratory to be exported. For his part, Bugetti tends to share the suggestion, however with a small gloss: “It also depends a lot on the people in the territories, on the sensitivities that are found. In addition to politics there are the people, here in Prato as well as at a regional level we had great collaboration with the M5S and a great willingness on their part to discuss projects. We have therefore found fertile ground for an agreement”. Undoubtedly the mayor looks favorably on a reproduction of this scheme elsewhere, especially to build a government alternative: “They should do the same, as in Prato, at a national level too. I won’t go any further. , but it is a model that many must look at and from Prato we send a very clear message: if you work at it, this is possible”.

‘HERE IS THE PRIORITIES OF MY ADMINISTRATION’

As for the administrative action, once the trial has been completed with contact with the municipal offices, Bugetti intends to immediately carry forward among the priorities the construction of the structure that will deal with thedialogue with the hamlets, with a delegated councilor but also with places and listening activities to carry out. At the top of the agenda, mention should be made of the Europe desk and the monitoring of ongoing projects. Particular attention will also be dedicated to the relationship with the Region, with some dossier that Bugetti, on the strength of almost two legislatures as a regional councilor, intends to explore further with the governor Eugenio Giani. “The metrotram is certainly among the first points to be addressed – confirms the mayor – because it is an important thing and the ministry’s announcement will be in October, at the same time I am thinking of the structural funds strong> and the coordination role that the Region can have on the topic to bring together resources in the area, but also mobility. Equally important is the issue of community houses the restart of work on the San Paolo house, the house at the former Misericordia e Dolce hospital, the doubling works in via Ferrucci”.
