ROME – It’s the ballet of the moment that is becoming popular on all social media: it’s called ‘Barbaras Rhabarberbar‘ and the lyrics are, for those who are not native German speakers, incomprehensible, a real tongue twister. Do you remember our ‘Thirty-three Trentino citizens entered Trento, all thirty-three trotting’? Here it’s more or less the same but in music this German tongue twister is really catchy. The authors are the musician and cabaret artist Bodo Wartkeand the YouTuber Marti Fischer. And if the engaging rhythm wasn’t enough, two Australian TikTokers also invented some moves that quickly became viral. And the authors themselves have tried their hand at the now iconic ballet that is going crazy on all our social message boards. “The success of ‘Barbara’s Rhubarb Bar’ is a total coincidence that we didn’t expect. We just wanted to have some fun. Everything that happened after that totally surprised us,” Wartke said in an interview with the weekly ‘Stern’.
The song, which has a rap rhythm mixed with funk, talks about this Barbara and her bar where she sells rhubarb pies. Wartke uses the tongue twister and in a few lines tells stories about Barbara and her customers (‘the rhubarb barbarians’).
@figlionerd Quata German song is great. It’s better than some Italian songs. Song by @Bodo Wartke – Barbaras Rhabarberbar #song< /a> #German #germania #music #bodowartke #barbarasrhabarberbar #funny #dance #rap #nerdchild #perte< /a> #viral ♬ Barbaras Rhabarberbar – Bodo Wartke & Marti Fischer
For those who want to try their hand at ballet, here is also a tutorial. And I recommend the post on social media.
