TRIESTE – Spotted showers and thunderstorms are still possible in Friuli Venezia Giulia, even particularly strong ones, are forecast for today’s evening while the phenomena should ease by tomorrow morning. Since the start of the alert, 90 volunteers with 34 vehicles have been activated to manage the problems resulting from the weather event and monitor the area. The news was given by the regional councilor for Civil Protection Riccardo Riccardi who is following, with the entire structure, the evolution of the weather situation with attention to the damage caused by the heavy rain.
At 4pm, three cells developed in the region moving from south to north, leading to small hail and numerous lightning strikes: a supercell that moved from Muggia to Trieste and then reached the Karst; a second supercell that passed from Cervignano to Palmanova and Udine; a third storm cell that moved from Veneto towards Udine. The consequences of the rains were these, the Region lists: the closure of the ford on the Cornappo stream in Nimis, fallen trees in Ronchi dei Legionari and flooding of homes in Cormons and Gonars; landslides in Dolegna del Collio, in the hamlets of Mernico and Scriò. The landslide in Mernico affected the road to the pass 100 m from the border with Slovenia. The helicopter has been activated to search for 3 people missing along the Natisone river. Teams of volunteers went out to monitor the territory in the municipalities of Fanna, Sedegliano, Torviscosa, Villesse, Fiume Veneto, Claut and San Leonardo.
