Bad weather in Emilia-Romagna, there is an alarm for the canals: checks during the night

Canals under severe stress in Emilia-Romagna after the storms that hit the municipalities of Valsamoggia between Bologna and Modena yesterday

BOLOGNA – Water, lots of water and in a short time. The Burana reclamation consortium confirms that yesterday in the foothill area of Vignola, Savignano sul Panaro and Marano there was really a lot of rain: around 140 millimeters in these areas with consequent critical issues in some defined sections of the consortium canals, in particular the San Pietro canal. An “equally worrying” situation on the bank towards the Panaro area of Bologna where around 200 millimeters of rain fell in Savignano and the Torbido canal overflowed in the Magazzino area and in the Molino area. “The main spillway in Savignano – the Sonara – has discharged and continues to discharge a very substantial quantity of water into the Panaro river”. The canals, explains the Land Reclamation, “in anticipation of the weather conditions had already been brought into drainage mode and allowed the water to flow out with full hydraulic functionality. The problems of flooding and stagnation of water were found above all in sections located downstream from the most urbanized areas”.
