Bad weather and flooding also in the Lower Padua area, dozens of interventions by the Civil Protection

In Veneto, a storm hits Montagnana and the Union of Municipalities of Megliadina with widespread flooding. But no displaced people

BOLOGNA – The rain does not even spare the Veneto and, in particular, the Lower Padua area where this morning, 15 May, a strong storm hit with consequent widespread flooding which required numerous interventions by the fire brigade and of Civil Protection.

In particular, the rain fell mainly in the Montagnana area, the most critical situations were recorded between Borgo Veneto and Montagnana and in the area strong>Megliadina, where there are flooding of roads and countryside throughout the municipal territory and some communication routes are unusable. In Borgo Veneto the water entered the primary school canteen, while in the walled city the historic center is also in difficulty and the municipal operations center has been activated. There are various homes with water in the basements, so much so that the Municipality has started distributing the bags in the Civil Protection hangar. There are also critical issues in the nearby Casale di Scodosia with some central streets flooded and in Ospedaletto Euganeo, where the branches of an ancient Lebanese cedar fell in the municipal square.

As of mid-afternoon, the situation has not yet returned to normal and the firefighters and civil protection continue to intervene to reduce the inconvenience of the population. The Vampadore drain, located between Megliadino San Fidenzio and Megliadino San Vitale, remains under special observation, where the water level rose in a few minutes. At present, the mayors involved in the bad weather emergency in mid-May have ruled out the presence of families removed from their homes for safety.
