ROME – The proximity initiative ‘In the shadow of the towers’ kicked off today in Rome, dedicated to young people and adults, who took part in a real path dedicated to legality in the Capitoline district of Tor Bella Monaca.
Welcoming them in the area in front of the car park on Viale Paolo Ferdinando Quaglia were the operators of State Police belonging to the Postal Police, the Scientific Police, the Railway Police and the Road Police , the policemen of the Rome Police Headquarters and the dog and bomb squad teams.
The event was attended by the central director of the Road and Railway Police and the Special Police Departments. of State, the prefect Renato Cortese, the central director for the Scientific Police and Cyber Security, senior manager Luigi Rinella, Don Antonio Coluccia, who has long been involved in combating serious forms of illegality in the territory, and the local authorities.

Cyberbullying, social media, artificial intelligence, deepfake, are just some of the topics that were explored in depth during the meetings on board the iconic Truck, symbol of ‘Una Vita da Social’, the traveling educational campaign of the Postal Police in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit and with the support of Google, and in a school in the neighborhood, which hosted the screening of the docufilm ‘Senza Rete’ , the result of the collaboration between the State Police and Rai Documentari, which tells the stories of boys and girls who are victims of cyberbullying through their testimony and that of the people closest to them.
The road safety was the protagonist on board the Pullman Azzurro, the traveling multimedia classroom dedicated to awareness and prevention, to inside which lessons and practical demonstrations were held aimed at young people and adults to promote the adoption of responsible and virtuous driving behaviour, with the aim of increasing the culture of road safety.

The Railway Police is also present at Tor Bella Monaca with a corner dedicated to safety in the stations and on board the train and to the educational project ‘Train…to be cool’, the campaign reserved for younger people to bring them closer to respecting the rules in the railway sector and to promote the adoption of conscious and responsible behavior for their own and other people’s safety.
At its stand the The Police Headquarters of Rome has provided useful advice in the name of prevention and information relating to the most frequent types of scams, in particular those targeting the elderly, and on ways to stem them, as part of the State Police’s awareness campaign to protect the most vulnerable victims.

The Scientific Police participated with the specialist ‘Fullback’ vehicle, a vehicle used in technical inspections. The operators illustrated the operational activity of the Scientific Police, with particular reference to the collection of finds at the crime scene and the consequent analysis activity of the same within the laboratories specially equipped. Even the dog units and the bomb squad, ‘specialists’ of the State Police capable of expressing significant operational potential, illustrated their particular capabilities and technical skills through demonstrations dedicated to the numerous students and citizens who participated in the event.
“Today I am here to make public opinion understand that we must move and the institutions must do so with us, because this is a disadvantaged area. We demand the permanent presence of the Police , as there once was when there was a guard, operating 24 hours a day, otherwise we won’t get anywhere We want permanent police to protect the good people: here there is a lot of it, we are not all criminals as they define us. Here there are good people, family men, workers and respectable people”. Speaking to the Dire agency is Mr. Luigi (editor’s note: fictitious name), resident of Tor Bella Monaca, theater of the proximity initiative ‘All’ombra delle torri’.
“The problems we live with every day there are many – continues Luigi – but the main one is unemployment, which is enormous, and unemployment leads to crime. The state must give work to these people, not keep them free on the street, because then these criminals Here in Tor Bella Monaca there are no recreational centers, there are no people who work there, there are no psychologists, everything is missing: once they leave school, the children don’t know what to do. We should create centers to make them stay together, to socialize and this really means a lot to them”.
Mr. Antonio also lives in Tor Bella Monaca, who lets off steam and denounces a situation of absolute degradation. “The tower burned down for two years. The municipality and the president of the municipality came, but they didn’t fix anything. They changed the meters – he informs – but the wires remained hanging, at outside of its premises, the cellars have no light, the intercoms and the antenna do not work, the stair lights are not there and we had to buy them ourselves”.
Not only that: the apartments are damp and it often rains inside. “In addition to all this – highlights Mr. Antonio – last July a tree fell: the Fire Brigade came but left everything in a state of abandonment and whoever saw it, saw it. They had promised that they would send the garden service to have the tree cut down but to date, despite the complaints made, no one has yet been seen”.
Anna (editor’s note, fictitious name), originally from Naples, has been resident in Tor Bella Monaca for four years after purchased a house near your partner’s. “I live in a private area, with no access – he says – and yet the thieves entered the house and stole. In this neighborhood some people are good but there are others who are not I like them, I’m sincere“.
What annoys Mrs. Anna, however, is above all the presence of rubbish. “There’s so much of it: even if it’s everywhere, they really throw everything here.” “And then – he says looking at the numerous children present – there is nothing even for these little ones: they need freedom, a beautiful garden. Just think that nearby they have created one that looks like the Regina Coeli prison”.
According to Mrs Anna “it is important that children breathe legality from an early age, but the presence of the Police is equally important: indeed, it is necessary. we would like more!“.
A presence, that of the police, which also makes another resident of Tor Bella Monaca happy. “For us – says Mr. Riccardo (editor’s note: fictitious name) – today’s event is truly new, a similar event has never been held before. It’s important for us and for the children, who at least see how the neighborhood has developed and what’s inside: here, in fact, there are many good people but there are many others who are not good“.
“Here – he adds – many things are missing because people are ignorant: the rubbish bins are there, yet people throw everything on the ground, throw rubbish from cars, they don’t care about anything. For example, if I find the bin full, I throw the rubbish away somewhere else or I take it home and throw it away the next day”.
“Here – he then states with a touch of bitterness – a child cannot grow up, he has to leave the village A parent must keep him locked inside the house, because when he grows up and leaves home, he gets ruined here. But the fault also lies with the State, which does nothing for these people . Those who steal, for example, instead of being convicted, are already out of prison the next morning”.
Like Riccardo, Mrs. Carmela (editor’s note: fictitious name) has always lived in Tor Bella Monaca. “I have a son 35 years old, married and father of two children. He is a fulfilled person: he is a beautiful and healthy boy, and this is the most beautiful thing in the world. ‘Healthy’ means that he has understood what the right path is. And I want to reiterate that today kids must be helped, not abandoned”.
Among the many initiatives there is that of the Rome Police Headquarters, which has provided useful advice to prevent the most frequent scams , in particular those for the elderly. “Even though I’m 85 years old – declares another resident, Mr. Bruno (editor’s note, fictitious name) – I’m still smart but there are people who, as we say in Rome, are less ‘savvy’. and when faced with fake phone calls they fall for it like cooked pears. If there were all people like me, we would live well here in Tor Bella Monaca. Here we praise dead bosses and this is not good. To improve this neighborhood we should mix bad people with good ones. Today it is a good thing that the Police came: perhaps their presence does not cause fear but if nothing else it serves to keep people in check”.
In Tor Bella Monaca there are numerous schools in the neighborhood but also some institutes from other areas of Rome Tommaso Testaverde, teacher of Literature at the Donatello comprehensive institute in the Torre Gaia area, explains that he decided to bring a class representation “because in our institute we promote the value of legality. through educational paths also divided into learning units. We let the kids go out into the area: for example, as a third class this year we did a workshop in which the kids colored white t-shirts with words that for them represented legality. In our opinion it is important to work on this, precisely because young people arrive in the area from difficult backgrounds with social hardship which we try to contain and limit also through teaching the values of legality >”.
“With us – the words of Tina Crobeddu, English teacher at the Villaggio Prenestino comprehensive institute– the difficulties are linked above all to the lack of external situations that are supportive to the school, as educational spaces for children. This is why we try to concentrate a large part of the activities within the school, even in the afternoon, to give young people support and educational teaching opportunities”.
“Talking with kids about legality is very important – concludes the teacher – given that in our area, a few hundred meters from our school, a tragic episode occurred: ashooting involving an 81-year-old woman, who found herself there by chance and dead. We tell our kids to study, to make a life by following what, where possible, are our indications, trying to encourage them to find a path in the name of legality”.
