CAGLIARI – The “bomb” in view of the municipal elections in Cagliari is dropped by Martina Benoni, fresh Action candidate in the European elections in the islands constituency: “The party will not present its list to the administrative elections of the Sardinian capital, and will take part in the electoral competition”. In the press release in which Benoni announces his entry into the field in the race for Strasbourg it is not specified, but from what “Dire” has learned, Carlo Calenda would have intervened personally to not grant the party symbol to the Cagliaritan list which intended to support the centre-right candidate, Alessandra Zedda, in the June local elections: “We will not support a Northern League member, especially with the European elections around the corner”, the diktat imposed on the regional leaders of the party by the national secretariat.
The news it makes ‘noise’ because the Sardinian management of Azione, just a week ago, had signed the agreement with Alessandra Zedda, “the only option that guarantees real and clear opening – it had been specified in a note – of a path that looks towards change”. In reality, the convergence to the right of the island’s Calendians had come after a previous announcement in which the agreement with the center-left candidate, Massimo Zedda, was considered concluded, an agreement which was later reversed after the “revolt” of the allies of the broad camp< /strong>– M5s first and foremost – against the expansion of the coalition to include centrists wanted by the leader of the Progressives.
“I waited until today to make my candidacy for the European elections public and to formally start the electoral campaign, because < strong>finally the position of Azione has been clarified regarding the next municipal elections of Cagliari, the city in which I live, work and mainly carry out my political activity”, we read in Benoni’s note. Azione “will not present a his list and will not take part in the municipal elections – it is specified – personally, while regretting the circumstances that prevented the presence of Action in the progressive coalition, I will support Massimo Zedda’s candidacy for mayor, because I consider Massimo the best political option for my cityand because I consider myself politically incompatible with the Northern League and sovereignist electoral proposal of Alessandra Zedda”.
