VENICE – “The shortage of seasonal workers is a problem that is set to increase and requires urgent solutions”. Which? For example, the inclusion in the seasonal world of employment “of disadvantaged people, such as guests of reception centers, people detained in semi-freedom or people with disabilities” (in this latest case in the wake of the law for the right to work of disabled people). The exhortation comes from the Order of Labor Consultants of Venice, Luca Scalabrin. “It is now well established thatour young people are no longer interested in the opportunities that seasonal jobscan offer and the forecasts linked to the demographic decline provide a worsening picture in the coming years on this front, therefore the problem is destined to become even greater– states Scalabrin- faced with this fact, we must act immediately and stop hiding”.
And go and ‘fish’ for the arms that are missing in “certain segments of the population that could still benefit from these types of activities: people with difficulties in entering or re-entering the world of work, disabled people, foreigners. These are often people who want to work, but who for different reasons are unable to find a valid job that afflict the world of work”.
As regards the work of immigrants, “the challenge is to be able to create a real training network, to intercept workers and train them directly at home so as to escape from the logic of mere annual quotas – continues Scalabrin in a note – collaborations could be built with the countries of origin for the training of waiters, chefs and hotel staff already on site, or even undertake cooperation with associations, bodies with the same intent, thus creating a virtuous chain that brings much benefit to the world of employment as well as that of those looking for a decent job”.
