FLORENCE – A professor of the Faculty of Law at the University of Florence was the victim of an episode of anti-Semitism this morning. A star of David, accompanied by a threatening writingwas found engraved on the door of his room. The episode, reported by the University of Florence which condemns in a note the very serious gesture which “takes us back to the darkest years of recent European history and warns us of the need to firmly monitor any resurgence of anti-Semitism”, was immediately commented on by the candidate for mayor of the centre-right in Florence, Eike Schmidt, and by the Fratelli d’Italia deputy Giovanni Donzelli.

THE SENTENCE OF THE CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR OF THE CENTER-RIGHT AND FDI

Anti-Semitism cannot and must not find citizenship in Florence– writes Schmidt on place of cultural and human education. I strongly condemn the gesture and repudiate it together with every form of discrimination and hatred.” The fact reported by the University of Florence, adds Fdi representative Donzelli, “testifies to a growing and very serious anti-Semitism alarm. Unfortunately, particularly in recent months, some left-wing university groups have fueled a dangerous climate of hatred towards Israel. Solidarity with the teacher who was the victim of the episode, we hope that the competent authorities will identify those responsible for this fact as soon as possible and that all forces will unanimously condemn”. For its part, the Department of Law reiterates that “it is not acceptable that the international situation is used as a pretext to fuel demonstrations of this type”.
