The digital economy has been driven by two main drivers: technology that has made people increasingly connected and informed, and demographics, with a generation of digital natives that will reach the maximum spending potential in the next 10 years.< /p>
This has pushed companies to adopt a digital mindset and invest in digitalization and data analytics, software-as-a-service, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
In the robotics sector, investments are driven by technologies ranging from factory automation to autonomous vehicles. But robotics is no longer just about automotive or aerospace manufacturing. There are many sectors in which it is applied: from surgery to the assembly of electronic components up to the automation of warehouses and industrial processes to increase efficiency and productivity.
Automation is a key response to rising labor costs and staff shortages.
In particular: re-shoring and near-shoring, industrial cobots, efficiency software, AI and computing, driving autonomous are the five key themes of robotics in the long term. For example, the global market for cobots, or robots designed to physically interact with humans in a workspace, will reach $6.8 billion in 2029: a composite annual growth rate of approximately 34%. The industrial software market could reach over $250 billion by 2027, with annual growth of 15%.
The economic impact of the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) is significant. Again according to Goldman Sachs calculations, it could add around 7 trillion dollars to the global economy between now and 2034. Four key sectors.
Public cloud platforms, enabling technologies, enterprise software and e-commerce are the four key areas of long-term AI development. For example, public cloud, according to Gartner, will reach $2.5 trillion by 2032 with annual growth of approximately 20%. It is more difficult to estimate the growth of enabling technologies, which require investments in research and development, as well as for enterprise software.
On e-commerce, the forecasts are for an increase in online spending of over 1,400 billion dollars in the next four years, thanks to the use of data to improve the user experience, increase sales and encourage brand loyalty.
“We must be able to go further and take risks – explains Agostini, one of the leading Italian experts on cobotics – we experience continuous resistance among those who do not know the subject well, but would need it. I am referring to the Italian manufacturing industry which it still doesn’t want to evolve. It’s a positive push for me to build a better future in factories and outside of companies. I invite the institutions to reflect on these issues, while also thinking about adopting strategies the evolution that necessarily passes through digitalisation”.
