After 80 years, the pylons of Viale Ventimiglia, the eco-monsters of the Trullo, have been demolished

The Terna company has started to demolish the first two pylons of the Trullo, in Viale Ventimiglia. Four more will disappear by June. Gualtieri: let's give back 30 hectares to the citizens

The two large pylons of Viale Ventimiglia, in fact the historic square of the Trullo, were demolished today after 86 years. The eco-monsters, 31 meters high, present in the southern Rome neighborhood since 1938, were removed by Terna in the presence of the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri.

The abatements are part of Terna’s plan to reorganize Rome’s electricity grid. Up until now there were four pylons on Viale Ventimiglia. The first two will be definitively removed today. The couple at the opposite end of the church on June 7 and the last two, those right in front of San Raffaele Arcangelo itself will disappear on June 20. Then Terna will continue with the demolitions up to Pisana, a total of 65 pylons in 15 kilometres of linear route. The intervention will be completed by the end of August.

Viale Ventimiglia, the beating heart of the Trullo with its low and colorful 1940s buildings, will instead be the subject of a further redevelopment intervention with greenery and perhaps the new market, after the embellishments of recent months when rows were planted of trees and pedestrianized the first part of the road right in front of the church. 2 km of power lines falling in two protected areas will also be removed: the regional natural reserves “Tenuta dei Massimi” and “Valle dei Casali”.

“The citizens of the Trullo have been waiting for this moment for decades– commented Gualtieri- With this operation we will recover an important part of the territory, because we will demolish 65 pylons and return 30 hectares of territory to the citizens” .

The dismantling of the existing infrastructure was made possible by the creation of a new 150 kV underground cable connection between the Magliana RT electrical station, which will soon be subject to renovation, and the “Magliana-Ponte Galeria” line. The intervention, for which Terna invested approximately 8 million euros, will guarantee greater efficiency and security of the local network.
