ROME – 46 years have passed since the killing of Aldo Moro by the Red Brigades. The president of the Christian Democrats was kidnapped on 16 March 1978, a day that went down in history as ‘the Via Fani massacre’. On March 16, in fact, not only was the leader of the DC kidnapped, but the Red Brigades – a terrorist group operating in Italy in what went down in history as ‘the years of lead’ – killed his escort: Domenico Ricci, Francesco Zizzi , Raffaele Iozzino, Giulio Rivera and Oreste Leonardi. The kidnapping lasted 55 days: to free Moro, the Red Brigades asked for the release of some ‘comrades’. The State did not want to enter into negotiations with the terrorists. On May 9, 1978, the Christian Democratic presidentwas found lifeless in the ‘metal prison’ of a red Renault 4, in Via Caetani.
