ROME – – The flight that brought ten children from Haiti adopted by Italian families to Italy has landed at the 31st Wing, at Ciampino military airport. Welcoming them, among others, was the Minister for Family, Birth and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Roccella. The Italian Government has taken action to have them return to our country after, “for security reasons linked to the serious situation underway in the Caribbean nation – we read in a note from Palazzo Chigi -, marked by a devastating crime, had not so far been able to leave their residences (nine were in the capital Port Au Prince and one in a location about 200 km away)”.
The children had been waiting for months to be able to join their Italian families, with whom they had only had contact via video call. The operation was conducted as soon as the minimum guarantee conditions were restored, “in order to avoid the risk that the criminal gangs, recently responsible for the brutal murder of two American missionaries and a Haitian prelate, could also raid orphanages”, adds Palazzo Chigi. “The positive result is the result of collaborative action between Aise, the Farnesina crisis unit, the ministry for the family, birth rate and equal opportunities, the Italian embassy in Santo Domingo, the Honorary Consulate in Port Au Prince and the Adoption Commission international”.
On Facebook, the comment of the Minister for Family, Birth and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Roccella: “Today is one of those days thatare worth the political commitment of a lifetime Ten children arrived from Haiti, torn from orphanages and the civil war, to embrace the Italian families who adopted them and who were anxiously waiting to welcome them Vincenzo Starita, extraordinary strong>vice president of the International Adoptions Commissionwhich I have the honor of leading, we went to Ciampino to wait for them, together with all those with whom this team game with a happy ending was conducted, starting with the Aise and from the Farnesina Crisis Unit. The commitment of the Prime Minister and the entire government is continuous and constant in all the places where children are waiting to be able to arrive in Italy, held back by difficult geopolitical conditions. We will always continue to work for this goal by putting your heart into it.”
